Militiaman shoots village official

A VILLAGE official was shot and wounded by a militiaman in a remote village of Zamboanga del Sur, the police said Thursday.

Zamboanga Peninsula police information officer Chief Inspector Ariel Huesca said the incident happened around 6 a.m. Wednesday in the village of Marangan, Dumingag, Zamboanga Del Sur.

Huesca identified the victim as Francisco Batoon, 43, a village councilman of Marangan, who sustained three bullet wounds.


Huesca identified the suspect as Geny Lubemdina, a militiaman.

Investigation showed the victim was walking on his way home when suddenly, the suspect appeared and shot him three times with a caliber .38 revolver without any apparent reason.

The victim was rushed to the hospital for treatment while the suspects fled and went into hiding, he said.

Appropriate charges are being readied to be filed against the suspect, he added. (Bong Garcia)
