THE location of the vice-mayor of a Basilan town abducted at a local shopping mall remained unknown although the official had already contacted her family, a police official said Wednesday.
Arsina Nanoh, 20, the vice-mayor of Hadji Muhtamad, Basilan province, was abducted by unidentified persons shortly after 12 noon Tuesday at a shopping mall along La Purisima Street in downtown Zamboanga City.
Police Station 11 commander Superintendent Diomarie Albarico said that Alnajil, the victim’s husband, told them that the latter’s wife called them around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday.
However, the victim did not mention anything about her whereabouts except from narrating that the suspects seized her from the shopping mall unnoticed by the other customers as well as the security guards.
Albarico said the victim did not also tell her family what is the suspects’ demand in exchange for her safe release.
“According to the husband, the vice mayor only related to them how she was seized by the suspects,” Albarico said.
He said the vice mayor has told her family that she was brought out of the shopping mall unnoticed and without any commotion.
Once outside, she was made to board on a white van along La Purisima Street that sped to an unknown direction.
Prior to her abduction, Nanoh and her husband together with some friends went to the shopping mall around 12:15 p.m. Tuesday.
The vice-mayor parted ways from the group after she received a call from a friend asking her to return to the mall while they were already at the exit gate aboard their vehicle.
Alnajil reported to the police that she was abducted after he failed to locate her at the shopping mall upon his return when he received text messages from the suspects.
Investigation continues to establish the identities of the suspects as well as the victim’s whereabouts, Albarico said.
