PREPARATIONS are underway for the conduct of Marcha de las Mujeres (Women's March) in March 11 this year in Zamboanga City.

The activity has been organized by the Gender and Development (GAD) Focal Point and the Local Council of Women (LCW) in line with the observance of National Women's Month this March.

This year's activity is anchored on the theme: "Mujer: El Fuerza di tuyo es el Fuerza de todo para lebanta y adelanta (Woman: Your strength is the strength of everyone to stand up and move forward)."

The march will start at 6:30 a.m. of March 11 from Mayor Ledesma Street (in front of the Bureau of Fire Protection headquarters) to Paseo del Mar, where various activities will follow.

GAD vice-chair Councilor Myra Paz Abubakar and LCW chair Dr. Mila Fernandez have invited the different sectors to support the annual activity and help in the cause of empowering women.

Highlights of the activity are the forming of human symbol by women and zumba after the march, as well as a program and bazaar at 9 a.m. also at Paseo del Mar.

Abubakar and Fernandez said after the zumba, participants will proceed to Centro Latino for the short program and the launching of the bazaar/wellness activity where invited concessionaires/exhibitors will put on display for sale food products and handicrafts, as well as provide foot spa, mani/pedicure and massage services.

The City Government's GAD, in cooperation with the LCW, organizes every year the Marcha de las Mujeres activity. Proceeds of which will be donated to marginalized women groups, such as the breast cancer patients or the women inmates at the Zamboanga City Reformatory Center. (Bong Garcia)
