POLICE have seized a shipment of bomb-making component aboard a passenger bus in the province of Zamboanga del Norte, the police said Wednesday.

Zamboanga Peninsula police information officer Chief Inspector Ariel Huesca said the bomb-making component was intercepted around 7:30 a.m. Monday at the bus terminal in Sindangan town, Zamboanga del Norte.

Huesca said this came about after the police in Sindagan town have received a text message from an informant about the shipment of “suspicious flour” by a female passenger aboard a passenger bus.

The passenger bus came from Dipolog City, the capital of Zamboanga del Norte, en route to Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay.

Huesca said the shipment turned out to be a nitrate component, which is being used to make improvised bomb, weighing at least nine kilos.

Huesca, however, said the owner of the cargo was not arrested since she disembarked from the bus in the village of Dohinob, Roxas, Zamboanga del Norte.

She boarded the passenger bus in the village of Galas, Dipolog City.

Investigation further showed that the female passenger paid P20 fare for the cargo to be brought to the bus terminal in Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay, Huesca said.

The cargo was supposed to be picked-up at the Ipil bus terminal by someone, Huesca said. (Bong Garcia)
