AN OFFICIAL the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said the agency is installing a Doppler radar in Zamboanga City.

Pagasa-Zamboanga station chief Meteorologist Maribel Hasanah Enriquez said the Doppler radar will be installed in April 2014 at Camp Don Basilio Navarro.

Camp Navarro houses the headquarters of the military’s Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom) in the village of Upper Calarian, west of the city.

Enriquez said that a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) has been forged by Pagasa and Westmincom.

Enriquez said the National Government has allocated P100 million for the implementation of the project.

She said the installation of the Doppler radar will boost the capability of the Pagasa-Zamboanga station to track and determine the intensity of incoming weather disturbance as well as to measure the amount of rainfall.

She said the radar will serve the Western Section of Mindana, since similar facilities were installed in Surigao and Cotabato.
