THE Zamboanga City Rabies Control and Eradication Coordinating Council (ZCRCECC) is spearheading the observance of the Rabies Awareness Month in March in the city.

ZCRCECC City Veterinarian Dr. Mario Arriola said they have lined up several activities to highlight the observance of the Rabies Awareness Month.

Arriola said the celebration will commence with a launching program on March 5 at the Southcom Elementary School in Barangay Upper Calarian.

A motorcade among participating local government offices, national agencies, non-government organizations (NGOs) and other stakeholders from Pettit Barracks downtown to the Southcom Elementary School will precede the launching program.

Arriola said this year's celebration is anchored on the theme: "Working together for a rabies-free Zamboanga City -- Practice Responsible Pet Ownership."

Meanwhile, Arriola's office has conducted a Valentine's Day vaccination of dogs in Barangay Pasonanca.

He said the vaccination is part of the efforts of his office to minimize, if not eradicate, cases of rabies in the city.
