Cop unscathed, civilian hurt in gun attack

A POLICEMAN escaped unscathed while stray bullets hit a civilian in a drive-by shooting in an east coast village of Zamboanga City.

Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO) information officer Alexander Mabalot said the incident took place around 12:15 p.m. Wednesday in the village of Talon-Talon.

Senior Police Officer 2 Mabalot said unscathed was PO2 Ricky Mahalail and wounded by stray bullet was Guillermo Rojas.


Mabalot said investigation showed that Mahalail was riding tandem on a motorcycle driven by a civilian companion on the way from the city proper when shot by gunmen aboard a car when they reached in the vicinity of a gasoline station.

The suspects, who missed their target, sped away immediately.

Rojas who was walking in the vicinity at the time of the incident was hit on his right leg and was rushed to the hospital for treatment. (Bong Garcia)
