THE police have arrested in an entrapment an impostor soliciting money for an official who was wounded in a grenade attack almost two months ago in a west coast village of Zamboanga City, the police reported Tuesday.
Arrested was Erlyn Sangadan, 34, a resident of Sta. Maria village, this city, according to Police Station 9 chief Edilberto Alvarez.
Alvarez said Sangadan was arrested around 10 a.m. Monday in the village of Ayala.
Alvarez said the entrapment was carried out after Ayala National High School Principal Edsel Francisco received a text message from the suspect, who pretended to be the daughter of Diosterides Librero, and asked for financial assistance for her father.
Librero, the village chief of Ayala, and nine others were wounded in a grenade attack last November 11 while they were having a meeting in his residence in preparation for the November 25 special barangay election.
The police said Francisco coordinated with them after learning Sangadan had already solicited P2,000 to P5,000 cash from the other teachers of the Ayala National High School.
The suspect had allegedly stole an unattended mobile phone of one of the high school teachers identified as Glenda Tan, when the suspect went to her residence to pick up the P1,000 donation she gave to Sangadan.
Francisco learned from Librero’s relatives that the official has not instructed nor asked anyone to go around and solicit financial aid for him.
Confiscated from the suspect’s possession were two pieces of P100 “marked money” used in the entrapment operation, the police said.
The suspect was detained while appropriate charges are being readied to be filed against her, the police added.
