THE Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) Regional Officer-in-Charge Marietta Bellotindos has warned overseas placement agencies against the imposition of placement fees for household service worker applicants.

Bellotindos’ warning came after reports reached her office that there are still some recruitment agencies that collect placement fees from applicants for household service workers abroad.

She clarified that the “no placement policy” applies not only to female household service workers but also to those working within the household like family driver, baby-sitter, gardener, and cook.

Bellotindos said they will slap appropriate sanctions against violators, and repetition of the same offense will lead to cancelation of their license.

She said 36 licensed recruitment or overseas placement agencies are operating in Zamboanga Peninsula.

She also warned the recruitment agencies against the excessive collection of placement fee on applicants to work aboard.

Bellotindos said the placement fee should not exceed or should only be equivalent to one month salary. (Bong Garcia)
