3 suspected gun-for-hires fall

POLICE operatives separately arrested on Monday three murder suspects believed to be gun-for-hires in the province of Zamboanga del Sur, a top police official said.

Arrested were Benzar Mendil, 36, his younger brother, Esmael, 32, and Jun Jun Cuaresma, 30, who were arrested on the strength of a warrant of arrest for murder, according to Zamboanga del Sur Police Director Sofronio Ecaldre.

Ecaldre said the elder Mendil was arrested at Purok 4 in Barangay Tiniguangan, Dimataling town while his younger brother was nabbed at Purok 1 in the village of Kagawasan of the same municipality.


He said Cuaresma was arrested at Purok Lunak in the village of Mulom, Lapuyan, Zamboanga del Sur.

Further investigation will be conducted following reports that the suspects were involved in a series of shooting incidents in Zamboanga del Sur province, he added.
