All set for the 77th Dia de Zamboanga

ALL is set for the celebration of the 77th Dia de Zamboanga (Zamboanga Day) on February 26 anchored on the theme “Build Back Better Zamboanga,” said City Administrator Antonio Orendain Jr.

Orendain made the announcement after he convened on Monday the different agencies and offices involved in the preparation of the activities including the police and military to finalize plans for the celebration that will start on the second Sunday of February.

The Dia de Zamboanga marks the day when the first set of city officials headed by Mayor Nicasio Valderoza was installed into office.


Orendain said the main highlight of the celebration will be the conferment of awards to Local Achievers covering various fields of endeavors and the grand civic military parade.

He said the awarding ceremony will be held on February 25, on the eve of the celebration while the grand civic-military parade will be held February 26.

The different city-sponsored activities lined up for the celebration include the following: the 8th Dia di Senador Roseller T. Lim, February 9; 8th Zamboanga Food Festival, February 21 to 22; 1st Mayor Ma. Isabelle Climaco-Salazar Bowling Cup, February 21 to 23; Documentary of Zamboanga mayors, February 24; 2nd Zamboanga International Film Festival, February 28 to March 2; Cheer Dance Competition, February 24; Drum and Lyre Competition (high School level), February 25; and, Dia de Zamboanga Peace Concert, February 26.

The Birds Festival, an event organized by the Department of Tourism from February 27 to March 1 will be one of the activities also being looked forward to, Orendain said.

Numerous other activities sponsored by private groups and organizations are also included in the calendar of activities, Orendain added. (Bong Garcia)
