GOVERNMENT authorities have arrested in separate operations 10 people who were allegedly involved in the kidnap-slay of the son of a businessman in the province of Zamboanga del Sur, the police reported Monday.

Zamboanga del Sur police director Sofronio Ecaldre said five of the 10 suspects were arrested separately at Purok Manga 2 in the village of New Labangan, Labangan, Zamboanga del Sur.

Ecaldre said the other five suspects were arrested in a follow up operation in the village of Molimok, Balabagan, Lanao del Sur province.

Ecaldre identified those arrested in Labangan as Hamedi Balatocal, 26; Jovencio Luzon, 45; Ronald Luzon, 30; Ray Mansa, 43; and his wife, Lucita, 39.

Balatocal was arrested in an entrapment while picking up the P150,000 ransom they demanded from the family of the victim Edmind Corpuz.

Except for Balatocal, the other four suspects arrested in Labangan have standing warrants of arrest as charges have already been filed against them in connection with Corpuz’ kidnapping, the police said.

Corpuz, 31, was kidnapped last November 27. The Corpuz family owns vast track of ricefield and a rice mill in the municipality of Labangan, Zamboanga del Sur.

Ecaldre said they arrested the other five suspects in a follow up operation in the village of Molimok, Balabagan, Lanao del Sur based on the revelation of Balatocal.

Arrested in Balabagan, Lanao del Sure were Danny Luzon, 42; Dante Mangubat, 42; Sergio Cabana, 48; Efren Sisiban Jr., 21; and Efren Sisiban Sr., 51.

Ecaldre said the arresting team has recovered in Balabagan the motorcycle of Corpuz and the motorized banca they used in transporting the victim from Zamboanga del Sur to Lanao del Sur.

Unfortunately, Ecaldre said the suspects revealed that they have killed Corpuz last January 2.

He said the suspects claimed to have dumped Corpuz’ body in Yllana Bay, which they are checking the veracity.

He said it was possibly the suspects have killed the victim as four of them are known to the Corpuz family since they were neighbors in Labangan, Zamboanga del Sur.

He said investigation further revealed that the kidnappers were able to collect in several installments closed to P500,000 from the Corpuz family since the time they kidnapped the victim.

The last was supposedly the P150,000 to be picked-up by Balatocal when he was arrested in the entrapment operation, Ecaldre said.
