THE first week of the renewed campaign against violators of existing traffic rules and regulations in Zamboanga City has netted 210 violators.

The City Government, in coordination with the local police and other concerned authorities, launched the renewed campaign starting Monday to restore law and order in the city's streets.

City Administrator Antonio Orendain Jr. said the campaign centered on provisions mandated by Ordinances 248 (Traffic Code) and 500 (Sanitation Code), including Republic Act 10054, otherwise known as the Motorcycle Helmet Act of 2009, as well as anti-sidewalk parking of Ordinance 240.

The campaign is being carried out by the traffic enforcers who are under Orendain's office and the City Hall Community Police Action Center (Compac).

Orendain said the campaign will continue for a more orderly city this year.

Meanwhile, Orendain ordered anew the drivers to stay on their lanes at all times, use seatbelts, observe driving courtesy and the designated fast and low lanes, and avoid counter-flows, reckless driving, and beating the red light.

License plates should also not be obscured or tinted, and motorcycle riders must wear protective helmets, Orendain said.
