THE Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) is planning to acquire K9 dogs to further strengthen its effort against the entry of prohibited drugs and other banned items at its detention facility in Zamboanga City.
Zamboanga City Reformatory Center (ZCRC) warden Chief Inspector Julius Arro said they need the K9 dogs, which are specially trained to detect prohibited drugs like methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu.
At present, Arro said they inspect incoming visitors by frisking them to prevent entry of prohibited drugs and other banned items into the detention facility.
ZCRC personnel detailed at the entrance gate have most of the time in the past intercepted shabu hidden within the private parts of visitors, according to Arro.
He said the acquisition of K9 dogs will be of big help to them to deter the entry of prohibited drugs at the detention facility since the dog will be deployed at the entrance gate.
