ZAMBOANGA -- The police have fished out at sea the remains of the eight fishermen who were among the nine people reported missing in a recent attack by pirates off shore Talusan, Zamboanga Sibugay.

Zamboanga Peninsula police information officer Chief Inspector Ariel Huesca said the remains of the slain fishermen were recovered around 5:35 p.m. Friday in between the sea water of Sacol Island and Manicahan village, east of this city.

Huesca said the cadavers that were recovered were that of Mursid Ambasali, Jimmy Sannayani, Benjie Sannayani, Piyad Sannayani, Palaji Sannayani, Jeffrey Sannayani, Palari Buyong, and Maastal Jaolani.

Huesca said the victims’ cadavers, that were already in the advanced state of decomposition, were recovered following reports that a banca was seen drifting at sea with dead people aboard.

The fisherfolks were among the group of 11 Bajao fishermen from Sitio Seaside, Sangali village, this city, who went fishing in the Talusan Municipal waters and attacked by pirates last December 25, said Huesca.

He said two of the 11 victims--Muksin Ambasali and Loloy Ambasali--were rescued alive although wounded by other fishermen.

The remains of one of their companions were recovered floating last December 31 near the shore of Bolong village, east of this city.

Investigation continues to unmask the suspects for the filing of appropriate charges against them, Huesca said.
