THE police and provincial jail authorities have launched a manhunt operation in a bid to recapture an inmate who escaped while under medical treatment at a hospital in Zamboanga del Norte, the police reported Friday.
Object of the manhunt is Rex Angas, 22, a detainee of the Zamboanga del Norte Correctional and Rehabilitation Center, according to Zamboanga Peninsula police information officer Chief Inspector Ariel Huesca.
Huesca said that Angas escaped around 6:50 p.m. Thursday while admitted at the Manukan Medicare Hospital in the municipality of Manukan, Zamboanga del Norte.
Huesca said Angas was rushed to the hospital around 2:40 p.m. of the same day as he was vomiting blood and was confined at the isolation room, which is separate from the hospital’s main building and with other patients.
The duty jail guard, Mitchiemar Solo, went outside the building to take his dinner and when he returned, Angas was no longer around, Huesca said.
He said Angas escaped by taking off his dextrose and leaving his handcuff in his bed and exited at the back portion of hospital building.
The Manukan police and the provincial jail authorities have alerted all the law enforcement units in the province to assist them to recapture the escapee, he said.
