Cop hurt in accidental firing

A POLICEMAN was wounded in an accidental firing in a west coast village, in Zamboanga City, the police reported.

Wounded was Police Officer 1 (PO1) Abdulhamid Awalie, 48, of the Naga Police Station, Zamboanga Sibugay province, said Police Station 9 (PS9) commander Senior Inspector Edilberto Alvarez.

Awalie is a resident of Guiwan village, Zamboanga City.


Alvarez said the incident took place around 7:20 p.m. Thursday at Zone 8, Ayala village.

Investigation showed that Awalie’s .9mm pistol, accidentally went off when he unloaded the gun while boarding his vehicle, Alvarez said.

Awalie, who was hit in his right thigh, was rushed to the Zamboanga Brent Hospital for treatment. (Bong Garcia/Sunnex)
