Boat sinks off Zamboanga; 1 killed, 5 rescued

A FISHERMAN was killed while five others were rescued alive off shore Zamboanga City, the local police reported Saturday.

The lone fatality was identified as Efren Macaso, who succumbed to multiple injuries, according to the report of the Police Station 10.

Rescued alive were the following: Ismael Asmud, 53; Nikieoy Ingalang, 13; Beejay Ingalan, 14; Aris Jay Rodero, 11; and Arjie Hampac, 13.


Investigation showed the victims went out fishing around 7:30 p.m. Friday about five kilometers from the shore of Limpapa village, west of this city, when battered by big waves.

The group, who were on board a small fishing boat, paddled their way to the shoreline but capsized after they were hit by big waves, the police said.

They were rescued by other fishermen who happened to be in the vicinity, the police added. (Bong Garcia)
