Dia de la Ciudad de Zamboanga celebration set

PREPARATIONS are all set for the celebration of this year's 76th Dia de la Ciudad de Zamboanga anniversary on February 26, marking the day when the first set of officials was installed into office.

Aurora Representative Juan Edgardo Angara wull be the keynote speaker is, who accepted Mayor Celso Lobregat’s invitation.

The event will kick off with a grand parade to be participated by all sectors from N.S. Valderoza Street to the Mayor Joaquin F. Enriquez Jr. Sports Complex at 1 p.m.


The commemorative program will follow at 3 p.m. and will be highlighted by the drum and lyre competition with high school participants and the competition del Sello de Zamboanga tilt.

The activities for the Dia de Zamboanga celebration started last Saturday with the commemoration of Dia de Senador Roseller T. Lim, the first and only Zamboangueño senator.

The commemoration started with a mass at the St. Joseph Church, followed by the wreath laying and the commemorative program at the R.T. Lim monument and capped by the awarding of the Five Outstanding Zamboangueno Young Leaders.

On February 21, the Open Cheer Dance Competition Year 11 will be held at 1 p.m. at the Mayor Vitaliano Agan Coliseum. Participants will be college and high school quads.

For the second year, the City Government will co-sponsor, with the Film Development Council of the Philippines, the 2nd Zamboanga International Film Festival, which gives young and old Zamboangueños the opportunity to screen Filipino and international indie films at the Mindpro cinema.

The Red Carpet Night will be at 7 p.m. at Centro Latino Hall at Paseo del Mar on February 23.

The Zamboanga Food Festival will be held from February 23-24 from 5 p.m. onwards at the Plaza del Pilar featuring local cuisines.

February 25 is set for the Achievers' Night where Zamboangueños who excel in their individual fields of expertise will be honored and recognized. (Bong Garcia)
