Booby trap kills militiaman, injures 2

A MILITIAMAN was killed while two others were wounded in a booby trap explosion perpetrated by the New People's Army (NPA) rebels in South Cotabato.

Colonel Romeo Brawner Jr., Eastern Mindanao Command (Eastmincom) spokesman, said the incident took place around 7 a.m. Sunday in the village of Poblacion, T'boli, South Cotabato.

Zambo Norte health program got a boost from Unicef

Zamboanga del Norte Governor Roberto Uy said this came about after the Unicef donated 479 boxes of medical supplies to his office.

City opens P75-M sanitary landfill facility

THE City Government's sanitary landfill facility worth P75 million and located in the village of Salaan starts operation Tuesday, March 31.

Engineer Reynaldo Gonzales, Office of the City Environment and Natural Resources chief, said the first cell of the sanitary landfill, which has an area of 2.3 hectares, can be used for a three-year period.

Troops rescue would-be trafficking victims

FOUR women illegally recruited to work in Malaysia were rescued by authorities in Tawi-Tawi last Friday and their recruiter arrested, the military said.

The four, identified only as Marilou, Clarisa, Claiza, and Ritz, were aboard a ferry moored at the Chinese Pier in Bongao town, according to Capt. Ma. Rowena Muyuela, Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom) information officer.

2 NPAs surrender in Bukidnon

The surrender of Ronnie Lino, who is known as Ka Rey to his comrades, and Genden Gutual Jr., known as Ka Jun-Jun, brings to 32 the number of communist rebels that have surrendered since last January in Eastern Mindanao.

UNICEF, Zamboanga sign plan to help evacuees

Cop, outlaw killed in shootout

BIR to buy P4.4M power generators

THE Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) is purchasing four power generators worth P4.4 million to enable the agency to continuously serve its clientele despite the rotational brownouts besetting this region.

BIR regional director Alert Alocilja said one of the four generators is a 500-kilo-volt-ampere worth P3.4 million that will be installed at the regional office in Zamboanga City.

Maritime cops intercept smuggled rice shipment

OPERATIVES of the Regional Maritime Unit-Zamboanga Peninsula (RMU-9) have intercepted a wooden-hulled ferry loaded with an estimated closed to a million peso worth of smuggled rice off Zamboanga City.

Senior Superintendent Shepard Reyes said the shipment was intercepted at 5:30 p.m. Thursday near Tictabon village.

Trichograma lab to help Zambo farmers

THE Office of the City Agriculture announced that a trichogramma laboratory has just been opened in Zamboanga City and is seen to serve the local farmers.

City Agriculturist Diosdao Palacat said the laboratory, which is located in the village of Vitali, will help local corn farmers in increasing their harvest with the use of environment-friendly and egg-based parasitoids also known as trichogramma.

Water rationing continues

2 drug pushers fall in Dapitan

Fire razes 27 shanties

City agriculture office recommends cloud seeding

3 PMA graduates honored

THREE Zamboangueños, two of whom graduated as topnotchers in the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) this year, were recognized and honored by the Zamboanga City Government.

City closes evacuation center
