THE Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) announced that a U.S. documentary shown in New York and Los Angeles about the country’s efforts to save Jews from the Holocaust will be screened at the FDCP-owned cinematheques in Zamboanga City, Baguio, and Iloilo.

The documentary film is currently being screened in Davao City. It started September 30 and set to end October 5.

“Rescue in the Philippines: Refuge from the Holocaust” by Russel Hodge, Cynthia Scott-Johnson, Terry Irving, and Jenny Gebhardt screens respectively in Iloilo, October 7 to 12; Baguio, October 14 to 19; and, Zamboanga, October 21 to 26.

FDCP Executive Director Teodoro Granado said the documentary is an account of an eclectic group of politicians, military minds and businessmen, headed by President Manuel Quezon, who decided to take action, risking their reputations and careers in the process in order to save the lives of over 1,200 Jews from Nazi Europe during the days leading to World War II.

Meticulously researched, Granado said, the full-length documentary feature tells the gripping story through interviews with historians, friends and relatives of the key participants, including Manuel Quezon, III, grandson of Commonwealth President Manuel Quezon, and Susan Eisenhower, granddaughter of General Dwight Eisenhower, who went on to be the 34th President of the U.S.

Granado said the documentary is relevant to the Filipinos as it recounts a part of their history and serves as a chronicle of their deeds of heroism--best described to be truly heartbreaking, courageous and collectively shared as a nation.

“It can remind all Filipinos that they are a people willing to help those in need, even those from other shores,” he added.

He described Hodge, Johnson, Irving and Gebhardt, who are behind as production of the documentary film as experts in their own fields.

Hodge is an Emmy Award-winning producer with 25 years of experience in news, public affairs and Documentary production and programming.

Scott is an award-winning communication strategist with specialized in television production and distribution.

Irving is an Emmy award-winning senior producer, digital media executive, experienced editor and talented writer.
