On-the-Job: To get acquainted with media people

-A A +A

TO SOCIALIZE is something we should and opt to do as human beings, to meet new friends are not choices but of fate. To make them stay is a decision.

Interns are called “Media babies,” (it speaks for itself) aside from the random things we have no idea about, we are still hesitant, confused and always curious. Two to three events a day, make stories out of it, get the news straight, interview speakers, ask questions, all these in an allotted time for passing of articles.

It takes a lot of courage to interact with high ranking officials, how much more with media people? I get nervous I meet different media personalities from various agencies, first because I’m still a media baby and not credible enough, it scares me when I have to deal with jargons I’m not familiar with, to be asked about my strength as a media practitioner which I think I don’t have, expecting negative feedbacks about how I performed in my tasks and so many other fears. I have to deal with it day by day, forum by forum.

When do I stop scaring myself? The past few days made us meet with different people, from writers to cameramen, to station managers. All were good, some even joked around to lighten our moods, some scared us with their experiences, some gave a piece of advice and cheered us up, some inspired us, some made us raise our eyebrow, some made us smile with their down-to-earth personalities.

Getting a bunch of wisdom in every person we meet, is a priceless gift. To meet these people is a pleasure, not everyone has the access to be with them and to interact with them. Indeed, we are lucky to hear words from these people; words that might drive us into our individual success as media practitioners. (Popsy Belle R. Ancheta)
