THE past the days have been amazing with the Sun.Star people – business forum, different press conferences, friends from the press and people from respectable offices. These are just some of what we did and who we met this week.
First day. I never thought it would be that hard. No orientation, no briefing, only a short conversation with Ms. Donna and Sir Rj. My co-interns and I were sent to a business forum at Dermpath, SM City Davao.
We were all excited and alert. We talked to different people and met a lot of new friends there. Later on, around 10 am, the forum started already. I understood everything at first, but later on, the forum got very technical and the terminologies used by the guests were very hard to understand. It gave me headache. After the forum, Sir Rj tasked us to write individual articles about the forum. It was very hard for me to start writing the article, but thanks to sir Rj for being there when I need his wisdom in business terminologies. It helped me a lot. We submitted our article by around 4 pm. Yeehaaay, successful Day 1!
Second day. Working on a holiday! We stayed at Sun.Star the whole
morning and revised the article we wrote. Sir Rj discussed to us the things that we need to develop - writing the lead, organizing the content and making the article short and concise. We are very thankful to him for sharing to us everything that he learned in this industry. Without him, I don’t know if I can make an article! He is our hero. He dismissed us early and told us to enjoy the remaining hours of the day but I slept because I was exhausted physically and mentally.
Third day. We attended a press conference (ISpeak) at Sangguniang
Panglungsod. The topics were about the fire at Piapi and the upgrade of communication lines in city hall. It’s my third time attending ISpeak so I felt comfortable already. I saw familiar faces from different media establishments. After the conference, we were again assigned to write an article. We chose to write about the upgrade of the communication lines in city hall. Sir Rj said that it must be submitted by 3 pm but we sent the article online at around 2 pm. He read and revised it. After, he showed us the original article and the edited one. I was amazed by how he made it more concise in just minutes. Great Mind indeed!
Fourth day. Finally, it is Friday - FLY DAY! Very sick today but I still
managed to attend the press conference at Philippine Information Agency. I thought of resting but I was thinking na SAYANG ANG ISANG ARAW NA PUNO NG MATUTUTUNAN so, I decided to attend the press conference. “Walang aayaw, ganyan ang buhay media.” That’s what I always put in my mind everytime I’m tempted to absent. After the conference, Sir Rj said that Ms. Stella Estremera will see us in the afternoon. So we went back to the Sun.Star office and met Ms. Stella. She told us to write an essay about our experiences this week. So now, here I am, writing this not-so-long-but-not-that-short compilation of my experiences.
I must say that this has been one of the best weeks of my life,
experiencing the life of the media people, experiencing how hard it is to write a story, WOW!!! What an experience. I just started my week here but I know for sure that I have learned and I’ll be learning a lot more from these brilliant people of Sun.Star. Thank You for giving us the opportunity to learn from you. Thank you for opening your doors to us. We are very grateful for this experience. We owe you a lot. (Mariz S. Lindo)
