Y-Speak: Interns in first-time experiences

LIFE as an intern is not easy. To get pertinent and relevant experiences, we should involve ourselves with different employers who are doing the kind of work we are interested in pursuing after college. Being an intern is very important because it tests our skills and interests as future employees and it also develops our interpersonal contacts in the community.

College life is more difficult during your senior year as you deal with bigger assignments like thesis and on-the-job trainings while balancing your minor subjects.

It was not easy for me, not at all. I’m used to multitasking but I have difficulty managing time. I’m having a hard time setting up my priorities in life. Though no matter what you do, it’ll be a part of your college life. One of my predicaments of being an intern is professors who are giving you a lot of requirements. Thus, over and above spending time to learn some things in the real world, you also make time for these requirements. We are now very busy.

Writing essays and news is like putting myself in the shoe of a reporter. It was fun though sometimes I don’t know how and where to start writing. It is my first time to be in this field, but experiencing this is much more rewarding and it is already a big achievement for me. I was shocked and surprised when our essays were published in the Sunday issue of Sun.Star Davao.

Sunstar was indeed a good office to have my OJT. They teach us how to enhance our writing and listening skills. My internship here not only tested my skills and interests, but it also assisted me in developing my capabilities and talents in terms of writing. Because we were involved in this kind of internship, we had the opportunity to work with different people especially in the world of media. (Shiela Mae C. Llanes /University of Mindanao)
