SINULOG usually an exciting time for Cebu! This is actually one of the reasons why I love being a Cebuano. The holidays are extended to almost a month for all of us!

But more important than anything else, I love the energy the season brings. I think it is because we are celebrating not merely because that’s what people usually do during fiestas but because we are grateful for all the blessings we have received from Sto. Niño.

I believe most Cebuanos have a unique, personal relationship with the Sto. Niño. Not only is it evident in the fluvial parade and the grand street dancing on the third Sunday of January each year but even in our day-to-day devotion to the Sto. Niño.

Anyone who has tried hearing mass at the Basilica del Sto. Niño can attest to experiencing a special, heartwarming feeling during and after the service. Whenever I hear mass at the Basilica, I always feel goose bumps on my skin when I close my eyes and talk to Him. I feel His presence strongly and it is as if He is beside me, listening to what I say.

When the mass ends, everyone waves goodbye to the image, and this gesture is what truly touched my heart the first time I witnessed it. I think one needs to experience it to understand what I am trying to say.

Every year, I make a mental list of all the blessings I have received from Him. This includes people, things, opportunities, lessons and many more. This year, my list is long.

Thank You. I love You.

Dedicated to Señor Sto. Niño.
