Owwa releases P840,000 death benefits

THE Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (Owwa) has released a total of P840,000 death and burial benefits to seven overseas Filipino workers’ dependents in Zamboanga City.

Owwa Regional Director Hassan Gabra Jumdain personally handed over Friday the death and burial benefits to the beneficiaries.

Jumdain said each of the seven families has received P120,000 in check.


The dependents of the deceased OFWs are also eligible to avail themselves of the agency’s livelihood and education assistance.

Jumdain said the next of kin of the deceased OFWs whose salary was below $400 can be recipient of the Education and Livelihood Assistance Program (ELAP).

He said the child of the deceased OFWs will be granted P5,000 for elementary, P8,000 for high school and P10,000 for college.

He added the surviving spouse will receive P15,000 livelihood assistance. (Bong Garcia)
