CATBALOGAN CITY, Samar (Updated) -- A Samar board member escaped unhurt in an ambush on Wednesday evening, police said.

In a text message, Police Chief Inspector Felipe Tan, chief of the Police Community Relations of Samar Provincial Police Office, said that Alma Uy was unscathed after she was ambushed around 7:28 p.m. along Maharlika Highway in Barangay Jia-an, Jiabong, about 11 kilometers from Catbalogan City.

Tan added that Uy’s Adventure service vehicle incurred one bullet on the left side window. He said the suspects and motive of the ambush are still being investigated.

But Uy, a former judge, said through a text message that the incident was politically motivated.

“An mga Tan. An kaaway ko, hi Jimboy (Vice Governor Stephen James Tan). May kaso ako ha iya adto na ha executive secretary ha Malacañang. About August 20 incident. Nagyawayawa hiya ha akon,” she said.

Uy is referring to the August 20 incident last year when Jimboy allegedly shouted obscene words at her inside and outside the provincial session hall.

Uy also filed direct assault and slander cases against the vice governor after he allegedly got irked at her for blocking his resolution that allow contracts without prior approval of the Provincial Board.

The camp of Tan, through Samar Governor Sharee Ann Tan, did not respond as of press time when asked for a comment regarding the incident.

Uy also had arguments with fellow Board Members Lee Zosa and Charlie Coñejos, who refuse to give any comments.

On her Facebook page, Uy posted that she, her driver, and police escort PO3 Jury Uy were unhurt during the shooting incident.

Uy said she received death threats since last year. She also survived another attempt in the past.

"Death threats had begun last year, January 2013. I have one police security because of the threats,” she said. (Gerwin Babon/Sunnex)
