SHE survived the Ormoc flashflood tragedy in the 1990’s and being bullied as a young girl. In her teens, she used to laugh at people joining beauty pageants because she found it shallow. But today she walked with confidence on the stage as one of the 50 candidates of BB. Pilipinas 2013.

Christine Paula Love Ramas Bernasor, 25, is candidate #19 in the country’s most prestigious pageant. She said she is happy to represent Ormoc City, her hometown. She graduated at New Ormoc City High School.

“The Ormoc tragedy made me passionate about the Philippines’ environment, empowerment of the poor, education, and animal rights,” Paula said in an interview.

A registered nurse by profession, she took her masters in nursing after passing the board. She worked as company nurse for a while but decided to try her luck in Manila. A woman with a big heart of a volunteer, she counts her mom who inspired her to be an independent woman and should be free from what a Filipina should be.

She lists her hobbies as running, cooking, travelling, watersports and blogging. “Women are getting a lot more of recognition nowadays and I have always been passionate about gender equality,” said Paula who stands 5 feet 8 inches with a vital statistics of 33-24-35, matched with a Filipina golden brown beauty and well-toned body.

“I am doing a lot of volunteer work and an active member of couchsurfing organization. One of my most memorable moments was meeting the kids from Operation Smile and from Gawad Kalinga in Tanay, Rizal. I was so touched by the purity of their hearts and it reminded me how I also fought against being bullied and being a victim of the Ormoc tragedy,” said this beauty with a big heart.

During the phone interview she said that her positivity is always her asset and believed it will be her edge during the pageant. Rodgil Flores, a beauty queen coach, encouraged her to join this year’s pageant.

“Aside from my positive outlook in life, my friends said that my height and my Filipina looks,” Paula said.
