DAGUPAN CITY -- Pangasinan is now "jueteng"-free, a police official said.

Superintendent Ferdinand De Asis, chief of the Police Community Relations Branch/Public Information Office of the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office (PPPO), said that based on the monthly report of chiefs of police in 48 towns and cities, the number game no longer exists in the province.

He admitted, though, that there is still a numbers game operating in some towns and cities of the province and the operator has business permits from local government units.

De Asis was referring to the numbers game run by the Meridian Gaming Corporations. This number game is similar to "jueteng."

He said Meridian obtained a ruling from the court, though he did not elaborate.

He assured that PPPO’s campaign against illegal gambling continues.

“We continue to conduct operations against illegal gambling in the province and arrest those who are operating illegal number games without license,” he said. (PNA)
