CAMP DIEGO SILANG -- A notorious gun-for-hire allegedly being coddled by a public official in Pangasinan province was arrested Wednesday by joint police elements led by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) here.

Senior Superintendent Francisco Esguerra, CIDG regional chief, identified the suspect as Johany Vedaña, 32, and a resident of Barangay Pisuac, Urbiztondo, Pangasinan.

Esguerra said the suspect was caught with a caliber .45 handgun and a grenade when members of the CIDG’s Anti-Organized Crime Team and Pangasinan policemen swooped down into his house around 5:30 a.m. Wednesday.

CIDG listed Vedaña as one of the members of the “Vistro Group” that are engaged in gun-for-hire activities operating in the 2nd and 3rd districts of Pangasinan.

The group is listed as the secondary target of Pangasinan-CIDG under Coplan “Tirador.”

Esguerra said the suspect’s arrest was done on the strength of a search warrant issued by Judge Renato Pinlac of the Regional Trial Court, Branch 57 in San Carlos City, Pangasinan for violation of Republic Act 8294 or illegal possession of firearms. (PNA)
