DAGUPAN CITY -- The Muslim population in this city and Pangasinan province rejoiced at the signing of the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro in Malacanang on Thursday which they said is a sign that peace will come to their land at last.
President Benigno Aquino III and Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak witnessed the signing of agreement between the government and the Moro Islamic Libneration Front (MILF) at the Kalayaan grounds in Malacanang Thursday.
Among the signatories to the agreement were government chief negotiator Miriam Coronel-Ferrer, MILF chief negotiator Mohagher Iqbal and Malaysian facilitator Tengku Ghafar.
Manguntawar Milan Sultan, secretary general of the Pangasinan Integrated Muslim Assembly who now lives in Dagupan with his family, said every Muslim looked up to that peace agreement to succeed and if it will, many of them who migrated in Luzon will go back to their farms in Mindanao which they had abandoned for many years because of endless violence.
He said what deterred many Muslims to go back home and till their farms was the tradition of endless bloodshed because of Mindanao's unstable peace, including continuing clan wars.
