MANGATAREM, Pangasinan -- Fire hit the municipal building of Mangatarem at past midnight Tuesday believed to be due to faulty electrical wiring.

The fire, which started in the ceiling of the two-storey wooden municipal building, raged on until 6 a.m., according to a report of the local police.

A report said the fire was preceded by an explosion that caused a brownout at the municipal building and adjacent establishments.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), whose office is at the back of the burnt municipal hall, was the first to respond to the fire before firemen from San Carlos City, Lingayen, Camiling, Tarlac and the Panda Fire Fighting Brigade of Dagupan City arrived.

Local firemen are still conducting investigation to determine the exact cause of the blaze.

The municipal building houses the office of the mayor, the treasurer's office, the municipal registry office, the election office and others.

Arson is being ruled out as cause of the fire.

A report said that some offices of the burnt town hall will be relocated yet to the town plaza till the municipal building is reconstructed. (PNA)
