Red tide alert back in Bolinao, Anda towns

BOLINAO, Pangasinan -- The red tide alert is on again in the coastal waters of Bolinao and Anda, two towns along the Lingayen Gulf in the northwestern tip of Pangasinan, the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) said.

Dr. Westly Rosario, chief of the BFAR's National Integrated Fisheries and Technology Development Center (NIFTDC), confirmed on Sunday that samples of shellfish obtained from the two towns were found anew to be positive of red tide organism when analyzed in the laboratory.

20-MW solar panel fields soon in Pangasinan

DAGUPAN CITY -- The Dagupan Electric Corporation (Decorp) is partnering with a Manila-based company to build solar panel fields in several areas in Pangasinan that could generate at least 20 megawatts of power and reduce the cost of power that the electric firm is buying from generators.

Randy Caspillan, Decorp legal officer, said his company has just entered into an agreement with a Manila-based firm that will install the solar panels in Dagupan, Manaoag, Santa Barbara and other areas being served by Decorp.

Police: Pangasinan is jueteng-free

Superintendent Ferdinand De Asis, chief of the Police Community Relations Branch/Public Information Office of the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office (PPPO), said that based on the monthly report of chiefs of police in 48 towns and cities, the number game no longer exists in the province.

Oplan Sumvac to be launched soon

DAGUPAN CITY -- Oplan Sumvac (Summer Vacation) will kick off in Pangasinan next month and will end in May to provide security and ensure the safety of vacationers and tourists coming to Pangasinan during the summer vacation.

Superintendent Ferdinand de Asis, public information officer of the Pangasinan Police Office, said that Oplan Semana Santa, launched during the Holy Week, is just part of Oplan Sumvac, which is bigger in scope and will include security preparations in beaches and other places of interests in Pangasinan, including fiestas such as the "Pistay Dayat" and the Bangus Festival.

Dagupan seeks to amend land use plan to speed up progress

DAGUPAN CITY -- The City Council here is set to conduct a public hearing on March 25 regarding the proposed amendment to the existing Comprehensive Land Use Plan (Clup) of Dagupan that seeks to include two other growth centers to the existing ones.

Councilor Alfie Fernandez, chairman on the committee on laws and ordinances, has invited representatives of various concerned government agencies and all stakeholders to the public hearing as the measure will have a big impact on everybody in Dagupan.

24 CCTV cameras installed in Mangaldan

MANGALDAN, Pangasinan -- At least 24 closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras have so far been installed by the local government in two of the most frequented areas of this town, said police.

Superintendent Jackie Candelario, chief of the Mangaldan police, said the CCTV cameras have just been installed and operating on dry-run basis in the town plaza and along Rizal Avenue, the town's principal thoroughfare.

Study: Dagupan highly vulnerable to climate change

DAGUPAN City was found to be the second most vulnerable to climate change among 16 Philippine key cities based on the assessment made by the World Wide Fund (WWF) Philippines and the Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) Foundation.

Based on the study dubbed “Business Risk Assessment and Management of Climate Change Impacts,” Dagupan City had a 6.91 percent vulnerability to climate change.

Mass vaccination of dogs to begin in March

DAGUPAN CITY -- The Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) in Pangasinan will conduct a three-month simultaneous mass vaccination from March to May in order to eliminate human rabies cases in the province.

Dr. Eric Jose Perez, officer-in-charge of the PVO, said the massive vaccination aims to provide immunization to the entire province’s dog population and prevent and control rabies incidence in the province in line with the celebration of Rabies Awareness Month in March.

Illegal recruitment cases down in 2014

LINGAYEN -- The Provincial Employment and Services Office (Peso) here recorded a significant decrease in the number of illegal recruitment, including human trafficking, cases in the province of Pangasinan last year as compared to the statistics in previous year.

Peso chief Alex Ferrer said the human trafficking cases recorded in 2014 decreased by more than 50 percent as compared to the cases recorded in 2013.

Board upgrades EPDH bed capacity

Pangasinan records 18 child abuse cases yearly

Top drug pusher, wife arrested

DAGUPAN CITY -- The number one drug pusher in Dagupan and his wife were arrested Saturday and the police seized 30 grams of suspected shabu and hand gun from them.

Carabao milk program for underweight kids on

BUGALLON, Pangasinan - The Municipal Government launched a program that provides daily milk supply to improve the nutritional status of the underweight children in this town.

At least 221 severely underweight children aged 0-71 months old have been receiving 200-milliliters of carabao milk drink daily since July 24. The 90-day milk supply is delivered to the kids from the 24 villages in the town.
