DAGUPAN CITY -- A new world-class hotel opened here Tuesday to help the city attract more local and foreign tourists and promote it to the world.
Archbishop Socrates Villegas officiated in the blessing and inauguration of the Hotel Le Duc, a five-storey hotel along the busy Lingayen-Dagupan Road in Barangay Tapuac, Dagupan City.
The 30-room hotel is part of the Lyceum-Northwestern University (LNU) Complex owned by the Duque family and will also become the university's laboratory for its students taking up Hotel and Restaurant Management (HRM).
Incidentally, LNU with Dr. Gonzalo T. Duque as president is now the only university in Pangasinan and perhaps in the entire Philippines that is maintaining a hotel to further train its students on HRM.
Dagupan City Mayor Belen Fernandez and Pangasinan Vice Governor Jose Ferdinand Calimlim helped each other cut the ceremonial ribbon formally opening the hotel to tourists coming to Dagupan.
The city of Dagupan, which will soon celebrate its Bangus Festival from April 1 to May 1, is now developing into a convention center but it does not have enough hotel rooms to accommodate all the participants.
"Certainly, Hotel Le Duc is most welcome in Dagupan and will help fill up the needs for more hotel rooms," said Mayor Fernandez.
On the other hand, Vice Governor Calimlim, who represented Governor Amado Espino Jr., said that whatever good things come to Dagupan, which is outside the political jurisdiction of Pangasinan, are also a boon to the province and its people.
Meanwhile, Archbishop Villegas said that the work of a hotel can be summarized in the one word -- "hospitality."
He said every Hotel should be excellent in hospitality, adding that hotel is actually and extensions of home, calling it a "home away from home." (PNA)
