Sisters' Act

-A A +A

WHOOPI Goldberg's starrer way back when was fun and entertaining.

Kris and her sisters' little political gig recently wasn't, and not-so-politically correct, either.

What were they up to?

Brother PNoy, the President, had already dropped the hint during his tear-jerking Sona.

He was going to anoint somebody who will pursue the “daang matuwid” agenda he had begun. And there was no doubt who that somebody was in his mind: Mar Roxas.

What were the sisters thinking?

Loosely suggesting that PNoy and his party take up on Jojo Binay's offer to be the party's guest presidential bet in 2016, the Aquino sisters quickly forgot the brother and suddenly became mushy about how much their family owes the Binays.

To put it simply, PNoy' sisters wouldn't mind having Binay as the next president of the country, and “daang matuwid” and its champions may go hang.

Apparently, they failed to read PNoy's lips: nobody remotely linked to corruption issues will get his endorsement as his heir apparent.

Aren't the sisters on the same page?

At a time when the PNoy is fighting for his political survival with still two years to go on his term, the sisters' timing is awfully bad. Their irreverent proposal unnecessarily stoked the flame of disenchantment with a morally crusading leader, discredited further his reform agenda and devalued his achievements in this direction.

If one's sisters are of such mind, who needs an opposition?

With the sisters' unmistakably rooting for the other side's bet, PNoy may feel more like Sisyphus as he pushes Mar Roxas back to where he was in public approval before some PNoy supporters ( who knows, perhaps, including certain close relatives) ditched him in favor of you-know-who for vice president.

In politics, blood isn't thicker than water. Or so it seems.
