Mother Teresa

-A A +A

MOVING our hearts to beat in pax (peaceful) rhythm, the soft and calm July rains splash reinvigorating energy to our anxious hearts.

Just like the calming spirit of our beloved Mother Teresa of India, whose life and deeds inspired and continue to awaken our goodwill and great compassion. Embracing the sick, poor and dying street persons in Calcutta, she gave us her generous spirit and heart of gold.

She is now a beatified saint who until this day inspires people from across the four corners of the world. In the Philippines, the congregation she founded also has a branch here.

Last week, I fortunately met a missionary sister from her group and she shared the mission statement of Mother Teresa.

Let me tell you about the ABCs that Mother Teresa left as a legacy to our world:

Firstly, in my case, I have a difficulty in saying “I am sorry.”

A week ago, I said hurting and sarcastic words to Myra N., striking her spirit like an arrow, she cried. Today, sighing in remorse, I called her up and said, “I am sorry for upsetting you.”

Happily, she forgave me.

Secondly, in our Barangay Mining, two brothers fought, boxed and hit each other in the face and body. Providentially, cooler heads intervened and broke up their fight.

Truly, how sad it is when goodness is not given a chance to prevail.

Yes! You and I can sow the seeds of compassion. You and I can reach out to our sisters and brothers through harmonious words and actions. No to violence… yes to unity. No to grudges… yes to kindness.

Thirdly, on a global scale, we see how uncontrolled judgment took the lives of the airline crew/passengers of Malaysian Airlines 17 in Ukraine.

Judging that all planes crossing their borders were their opponents, pro-Russian rebels in Eastern Ukraine fired a missile in warlike hatred. Mistaking the civilian aircraft as an enemy plane, they barrage their fusillade against the helpless plane. What a sorrowful day in aviation history!

In sum, let us practice the ABCs taught by Mother Teresa. Let us be kind to ourselves, to our families, friends and familiar barangay mates.

Empowering our hearts, minds and spirits, the ABCs will bring in the golden shower of blessings for all times.
