THERE'S no better way to thank teachers with their efforts of making Brigada Eskwela a success except to appreciate what they had done in their schools in preparation for the forthcoming opening of classes this second day of June.

Governor Lilia "Nanay" Pineda has lauded the efforts of the Department of Education (DepEd) teachers, parent-teachers associations, municipal and barangay officials and the community in cleaning up and repairing school facilities for the school opening.

In a jovial mood, the governor thanked all those participated in the public schools’ maintenance for their efforts, time, strength and resources for the activity. She saw that the spirit of volunteerism and cooperation was alive for the sake of the schoolchildren who will be trooping schools at the opening of next month.

She, however, added that schools preparation should not be only during a few weeks before the start of classes but all throughout the year to ensure that the health and sanitation of schools would be enjoyed not only by the students but teachers and other school personnel as well.

She likewise added that schools’ preparation should not only be confined on doing some repairs of furniture, repainting of school facilities or cleaning up of school grounds. She intimated that teachers and schoolchildren should always be physically and mentally fit.

The Brigada Eskwela is a yearly program spearheaded by the DepEd that line-up cleanliness and readiness activities of public schools. Since its implementation, there are also private schools that participate in such activities.

The Brigada, likewise arouse the awareness of various sectors in communities their involvement in the keeping up public schools for the sake of young schoolchildren.

The Provincial Government meanwhile has done its part the preparation of schools by readying day care centers all over the province, in time for the opening of classes.

The governor wanted to assure that day care students should likewise be given proper attention by day care workers in terms of their health and physical conditions.

She enjoined the full cooperation of the barangay health scholars and barangay welfare volunteers and barangay health workers under the supervision of the DSWD and DOH to check and monitor the health condition of the incoming school graders and their teachers.

With the effort of teachers, and all those involved in the Brigada program, they deserve the accolades of the governor and even the whole community.

There are some local officials who are said to be merely politicking or making themselves popular through the Brigada. As per my sources, some of them who even donate various things to schools while allegedly getting much acquainted with teachers for future favors.

Some local officials are promising the moon and the stars to schools while soliciting their political support from teachers and principals.

Be that as it may, the participation of local officials in the Brigada is far more important than their other agenda in joining the program, if any. Politics or not, what should be looked into is their participation and not their re-election.
