FOR 2014, the Mabalacat City Solid Waste Management Office has the following programs lined up: a) IEC/orientation/briefing which involves the following activities: reconstitute barangay SWM committee, b) orientation on new programs, i.e., "No Segregation, No Collection" policy, "No Segregation, No Entry at the CMRF" policy, "Basura Mo, Buy Ko" program and the strict implementation of the Anti-Littering and Illegal Dumping ordinance, public assemblies to be conducted at all barangays, discussing the new programs specially the segregation of waste procedures, tarpaulins/poster posting involving the saturation of tarpaulins/posters in the whole city for information and guides and distribution of flyers during public assemblies and house-to-house sorties. The anti-littering and illegal dumping ordinance should be implemented strictly and violators should be apprehended, no exception.
A 10-year solid waste management plan is being crafted by the City Solid Waste Management Office. A technical working group should be created for the first quarter of the year.
The working staff of head Jeffrey "Jinky" Santos is composed of the following: Jesus S. Dungca, Rafaelita C. Layson, Irma G. Venzuela, Marshiel Lou R. David, Froilan G. Dizon, Jeremy Bryant D. de Leon, Jaylee M. dela Pena and Nestor Tolentino.
By now, the city should be addressing the problems of solid waste management and disposal. After all, it is one of the pitfalls of an emerging city in pursuing its environmental concerns. This is where Mabalacat has a strong program and the City Solid Waste Management Office under Jinky Santos comes prepared for the challenges. It needs the support of the entire workforce and officialdom of the city, in terms of logistics and financial support.
