Sunday, March 29, 2015 - 09:57 p.m.

Pangilinan: Mindanao madness

Friday, March 27, 2015 - 07:58 p.m.

MINDANAO as a whole has always been the subject of much media hype in a derogatory perspective, whether it is on kidnappings, massacres or rebellions. Just think of the shivers that come out when we start recalling Maguindanao massacre, Mamasapano massacre and the likes.

Pangan: Graduation rites

Thursday, March 26, 2015 - 08:44 p.m.

AT THIS TIME of the year, graduation rites or commencement exercises are observed in varying degrees of excitement and intensity.

No less than Department of Education Secretary Armin Luistro who ordered school heads to refrain from holding extravagant graduation ceremonies and post-graduation parties. Suffice it would be that the graduates receive their degrees and special orders to formalize their formal completion of their academic requirements.

Peña: Energy conservation

Thursday, March 26, 2015 - 08:42 p.m.

ROTATING brownouts may happen this summer due to the shortage in power supply. As we all know, hydroelectric power plants generate less due to the drop in water level of dams and reservoirs. Then there’s the preventive maintenance shutdown of the Malampaya Natural gas power plant which supplies a big bulk of our electricity requirement.

Sangil: The BCDA and Casanova

Wednesday, March 25, 2015 - 08:04 p.m.

CASANOVA -- "Ala eh, di ka uurangan ng Batangenyo". (Try to sound as a Batangenyo when you read it a little bit aloud). It is as if I heard my friend Arnel Casanova, president of Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) hurling the words to officers of Camp John Hay Development Corporation (CJDEVCO). He is in locked horns with the Sobrepena led company, which is managing John Hay in Baguio city. The dispute reached the courts and went into arbitration. The arbitration verdict caused more confusion.

Pangan: Symbiosis

Monday, March 23, 2015 - 06:24 p.m.

Limlingan: An offer hard to refuse

Monday, March 23, 2015 - 06:24 p.m.

WHAT is a better way to get rid of a rival than giving him the offer that he cannot simply refuse?

It may sound like a joke, but for Vice President Jejomar Binay, he is damn serious in offering Department of the Interior and Local Government Secretary Manuel "Mar" Roxas to be his running mate.

Sangil: Risks and Rewards

Sunday, March 22, 2015 - 08:30 p.m.

CHANGES - There are risks and rewards in any endeavor. The risk is to invite the displeasure and anger of certain people. The reward is a legacy. It is clearly noticeable these past years of the aesthetic makeover in Angeles City.

There is also clearly the change in it its skyline, particularly in the Balibago district and in the Don Juico aka perimeter road of Barangay Malabanias. Tall buildings, mostly hotels were built, and more still under construction.

Mercado: Act of Contrition

Sunday, March 22, 2015 - 08:27 p.m.

FORMER President Ramos has joined the growing chorus demanding that President Noy say “I'm sorry” for his complicity in the botched Mamasapano fiasco.

FVR does not have the moral suasion to move a stolid PNoy to make an apology for the loss of 44 SAF troopers. Mr. Ramos himself would not apologize for his involvement in corruption scandals at the Clark Centennial Expo project, the massive funding for the Smokey Mountain rehabilitation, and the anomalies in the power plant purchases.

Peña: LED lights

Thursday, March 19, 2015 - 06:38 p.m.

LOCAL electric provider PELCO II has tightened up on the electric bills of Barangays in Mabalacat City. The move was aimed specifically at streetlights, which I learned do not have electric meters. The cooperative estimates the bill based on the number of streetlights the barangay has and the wattage of the bulbs.

Currently, however, it finds it difficult to wean away from its agricultural roots as it was for a long time and its inhabitants are used to its agricultural moorings.
