CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- The SM City Pampanga joined this year's observance of Earth Hour urging mall-goers to do their share in protecting the environment by cutting on their energy consumption and practicing healthy environmental choices.

SM City Pampanga joined other SM Supermalls in the country, along with its international malls in China, in switching off their lights for at least an hour in solidarity with the Earth Hour initiative.

SM City Pampanga turned off 100 percent of its logos and signs while 50 percent of its interior lighting was in operation.

The mall hosted a short program in front of its main entrance with a live band performance and dances using LED lights.

SM City Pampanga public relations officer Rain Cervantes said that Earth Hour is also a way of promoting other environmental initiatives.

He added that the occasion calls for people to be more aware of their environment and how they live their lives through healthy environmental practices.

The Earth Hour was initiated by the World Wildlife Federation in 2007 and was first held in Sydney Australia.

From then on, Earth Hour had become a global movement with more than 50 million people in 35 countries, including the Philippines, participate.
