CLARK FREEPORT -- The City Government has acquired a three-hectare property in Barangay Sapang Balen, which will be used as materials recovery facility (MRF).

Mayor Marino "Boking" Morales said that this is in line with the city's solid waste management program, which is provided for under Republic Act 9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act.

The mayor said the local government is anticipating the influx of investors and tourists in the city and a big volume of garbage is expected to be generated.

He said that the city environment office, headed by Jeffrey Santos, is implementing segregation and recycling.

Residual waste will be transferred to the Kalangitan Sanitary Landfill in Capas, Tarlac, Morales said.

The City Council recently appropriated P2-million, which will be used to pay for the tipping fee at the said landfill.

Morales said that local government is implementing best practices including environment programs in order to make Mabalacat a liveable city.

“We can attract more investors and tourists if the city is clean, green, and peaceful,” Morales said.
