GUAGUA -- Patients of the province's provincial and district hospitals now have easy access to affordable diagnostic services as Governor Lilia Pineda opened the P18.5 million Diagnostic Center and Out-Patient-Department (OPD) at the Diosdado P. Macapagal Memorial Hospital (DPMMH) here.

The facility aims to streamline provincial health services in public hospitals here with patients no longer having to leave hospital premises to avail of basic tests. Some P12.5 million was spent for the DPMMH's Diagnostic Center. It was part of the P25 million used to improve the facilities at the DPMMH, which now has a bed capacity of 100.

The new OPD was constructed in the amount of P6-million. The DPMMH through the provincial government entered into a public private partnership agreement with the doctors of Dr. Amando Garcia Medical Center (DAGMC) for the co-management and operations of the diagnostic center.

According to Dr. Joseph "Jong" Garcia of DAGMC, their counterpart in the partnership agreement is the provision of needed machines like ultrasound, computed tomography (CT) scan, X-ray machines and 2D echo, rentals of the building and salaries of the personnel who will man the diagnostic center.

"This is also profit sharing agreement," Garcia added.

Dr. Eddie Ponio, hospital administrator, said the diagnostic center is a dream-come-true not only for the personnel and patients of DPMMH but for the entire province of Pampanga.

Ponio said he is hoping that it will be one of the best when fully operational and at par with the same centers in private hospitals. He added this is a lasting legacy of the Pineda administration who wants to make patients especially the poor, comfortable in the hospitals and see that the diagnoses are accurate.

The governor had pushed for the realization of the diagnostic center that will reduce the average cost of diagnosis from “30 to 50 percent” compared to those of private hospitals.

"This diagnostic center is the first among the 11 province-run hospitals. We are expecting 'more patients' from all 18 towns and 3 cities in Pampanga when it is fully operational this coming August," Ponio added.

Pineda meanwhile said government hospitals are maintained especially for poor Kapampangans who cannot afford the services of private hospitals. The governor added that she is expecting that the performance of DPMMH will improve, considering the facilities, laboratory equipment and services are in order to become more competitive in addressing the medical needs of the Kapampangans who entrusted their lives and health to the medical facilities.

The inauguration was graced by assistant regional director Ruby Constantino of DOH-Center for Health Development 3, Mabalacat City Mayor Marino Boking Morales, Guagua Mayor Dante Torres, Sasmuan Mayor Nardo Velasco, Floridablanca Mayor Eduardo Guerrero, Porac Mayor Condralito Dela Cruz and Vice Mayor Dexter David and Rodolfo Bong Pineda, husband of the governor, Former Board Member Fritzie David Dizon, Executive Assistant Edna Vitug and department heads of the Capitol and chiefs of the ten district hospitals.
