MAGALANG -- Vice Mayor Norman Lacson denied reports that he will be joining the camp of incumbent Mayor Romulo Pecson as the latter's running mate in the coming 2016 elections.

Lacson was reacting to a statement made by Pecson in reports, saying that he is "wooing" the mayor and that he sent an "emissary" to reunite their forces.

Lacson, however, said that he will support the programs of the local chief executive for as long these are beneficial to the people of Magalang.

The Municipal Council presiding officer told Sun.Star Pampanga that in his knowledge, Pecson is no longer qualified to seek re-election in 2016, since he has already served three terms as mayor.

"Ang pagkakaalam ko ay hindi na siya makakahabol, dahil naka tatlo na siyang term," he said.

Lacson said that he is not keen on seeking the mayoralty post now, as he already lost when he ran for mayor. But he hinted that "someone" will definitely challenge the present administration come 2016.

Reports gathered by Sun.Star Pampanga revealed that three-term Councilor Malou Lacson is mostly likely to challenge Pecson in the 2016 polls.

In earlier interviews, Pecson said that he will seek re-election, adding that he is still qualified to run since first term as mayor was an "interrupted."

Last month, Pecson revealed that he is eyeing former mayor Lyndon Cunanan to be his running mate.

But Pecson stressed that he has not decided yet on whom he will include in his official line-up.
