MABALACAT CITY -- Mayor Marino "Boking" Morales said he will direct the city environment office to conduct an investigation regarding the reported presence of an open dumpsite near a low-cost housing area in Barangay Sapang Biabas here.
The mayor issued the statement following a television news report of CL TV 36, which aired complaints of some residents in the said village affected by the household waste coming from the Metro Clark subdivision.
A group of residents complained that a private garbage collector illegally dumps the garbage along a creek at the back of the said subdivision.
Officers of the Metro Clark Homeowners Association suspended the collection of waste inside the subdivision and vowed to resolve the issue in a couple of days.
The mayor said that the law prohibits the dumping of waste along waterways.
Morales added that he will direct the Sapang Biabas Barangay Council to transfer the waste to the city’s material recovery facility in Barangay Tabun.
Sapang Biabas Chairman Rizaldo Garcia, for his part, said that he warned the Metro Clark homeowners to stop dumping waste into the creek but to no avail.
The City Government transfers its residual waste to the Kalangitan sanitary landfill in Capas, Tarlac, said Morales.
