BACOLOR -- Pampanga has already exceeded the 2016 national target of 85 percent cure rate as the province registered 91 percent of treatment success rate, a regional health official said Thursday.
Dr. Roda Cruz, regional coordinator of infectious disease control program of the Department of Health (DOH) in Central Luzon, said that based on the record of the DOH, Pampanga has a prevalence rate of 208 cases and mortality rate of five out of the 100,000 population.
Based on the millennium development goals, the National Government is targeting a TB-free Philippines by the year 2050.
As this developed, Pampanga Governor Lilia Pineda created the Provincial Multi-Stakeholder Alliance (PMSAT) for Tuberculosis Control in the province during Thursday's 3rd Health Summit here.
Pineda allocated an amount of P1.2 million from the available funds allocated to support the activities of PMSAT for TB control.
The governor said with the persistence of TB, it requires a renewed call for action in combating the infectious disease. The PMSAT for TB control shall identify and establish the roles and responsibilities of the partners in the organization and delivery of TB care.
The alliance is tasked to coordinate the different sectors involved in its implementation and ensure that policies and the directly observed treatment short course strategy are implemented, ensuring a case detection rate of at least 90 percent and a treatment rate of at least 95 percent.
PMSAT shall also ensure that efforts and resources are generated and geared towards achieving the goal of having a community where TB is no longer a public health program.
A pledge of commitment for PMSAT was signed by Pineda as chairperson and by its members.
