CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- The Holy Week spiritual journey starts Thursday across Pampanga, particularly in this city’s Maleldo 2014.

Senior Tourism Officer Ching Pangilinan-Gonzales said that around 40,000 pilgrims and tourists are expected to troop to the city for the 59th Via Crucis at Barangay San Pedro Cutud on Good Friday, which will be preceded by the traditional Visita Iglesia on the evening of Maundy Thursday.

“The faithful could start the spiritual journey with the Visita Iglesia. In the City of San Fernando alone, we have about 16 churches, including the Metropolitan Cathedral, which offer devotees that solemnity and moments for prayers,” she said.

Pangilinan-Gonzales said the Maleldo rites in three venues have been organized by the City Government headed by Mayor Edwin Santiago to ensure the security and safety of tourists, devotees and penitents as well.

“All the preparations have been done months ago. Foremost is safety and security of the people who would visit the city and join the yearly spiritual journey,” she added.
