CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- Mayor Edwin Santiago said that the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) intends to partner with the City of San Fernando in the hiring of 1,000 workers.

In his opening speech during the Job Fair held at Walter Mart, Mayor Santiago encouraged applicants to be more persevering in looking for work to uplift their lives.

“Should the agreement succeed, SBMA will provide a two-way transport service to employees who will be hired,” Santiago said during the jobs fair participated in by 40 companies and agencies.

“This will help people maximize their energies and become productive for their families and for the community,” Santiago added as he addressed the attendees of the whole-day event co-sponsored by the Pampanga Archdiocesan Migrant’s Desk (PAMD) and the Department of Labor and Employment (Dole).

Mayor Santiago also emphasized that the fair is a perfect example of private-public partnership. The activity is also in line with his top governance agenda which is employment.

Fr. Arnie Serrano, head of the PAMD, said that they are sponsoring job fairs and other related activities because they believe that domestic employment is the key towards progress and promotes strengthened family relationships.

“Although we cannot totally eradicate overseas employment, we prefer Filipinos to work here in our own country,” Fr. Serrano said as he explains the unfavorable effect of migration to family values.

San Fernando Archbishop Paciano B. Aniceto also graced the event and exchanged talks with both the locators and applicants.

Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda) students also offered free manicure and massage for the participants.
