ANGELES CITY - A British national was arrested for allegedly raping a 14-year-old girl inside his bar in Barangay Balibago.

Gary Sulivan, 58, and his bar caretaker, Cristi Artigo, are now detained at the Angeles City Police Station for abusing Aika (real name withheld), who is from Cutcut.

Balibago Chairman Rodelio Mamac said the girl was sold to Sulivan by two unidentified women.

Aika told Mamac that she met the two women along the Fields Avenue, also in Barangay Balibago, before she was taken to Sulivan’s place.

The girl sought the help of policemen because Sulivan refused to pay her after giving him sexual favors.

But Sulivan said he gave some P5,000 to the two women who immediately left the place without the girl’s knowledge.

Aika said she confronted Artigo because Sulivan did not pay her. "Sabi ko po sa kanila akong nagpakahirap tapos ako ang walang pera," she said. The girl added that Artigo then gave her P600.

She told Mamac that her parents have no knowledge about her activities.

Mamac said Artigo tried to conceal Sulivan’s whereabouts and identity.

“She may be charged with obstruction of justice and child abuse,” the village official said.

Aika, who is now under the custody of the Department of Social Welfare and Development, also said that she did not even finish elementary.

Few days before Aika was rescued, barangay leaders launched a campaign to prevent exploitation and abuse of women and children, Mamac said.
