San Fernando, Xiamen partnership eyed-A A +A

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- The Kapampangan delegation to the cultural and trade mission in Xiamen, China is optimistic of establishing partnerships with the Chinese community through the Foreign Affairs Office, the Philippine Consulate General, and SM City Xiamen.
This, as the delegation led by Mayor Edwin Santiago is in China for the Lantern Exhibition, where this city’s famous Giant Lantern is an official participant.
“Our goal is to open avenues for partnerships and establish a long-term relationship with our Asian counterparts in this highly-developed country,” Santiago said.
The Filipino delegation was warmly welcomed by Zhang Jianhua, vice chair of the Municipal People’s Association of Friendship with Foreign Countries, in a visit to the Foreign Affairs Office of Xiamen.
“We want to learn from each other’s experiences,” Jinhua said, as he shared best practices on how to boost the city’s tourism and host conferences and expositions.
Consul General Julius Ceasar Flores shared that the Giant Lantern Festival exemplifies active private and public partnership and can be emulated in this Chinese city.
The city’s delegation was also received by the management of SM City Xiamen headed by Manager-in-Charge AJ Jarantilla.
“The SM Management here in China is looking into the idea of selling local products from the Philippines,” Jarantilla said. He also discussed the activities and accomplishments of the Filipino-owned mall.
The whole-day itinerary was capped with a dinner hosted by Consul General Flores and the exchange of tokens from both parties.
