CITY OF SAN FERNANDO – An official from the Office of the Provincial Agriculture (OPA) bared on Tuesday that Pampanga has received at least P394 million in support from the Department of Agriculture (DA) for the past three years.

Crispin Guinto, provincial agriculturist, claimed that the strong partnership between DA and the Provincial Government has been benefiting Kapampangan-farmers.

He said with DA’s support, they were able to distribute village-type post harvest facilities, combine harvesters, hand tractors with trailers, cassava granulators, four wheel tractors and shallow tube wells (STWs).

The farmers have also received other farm machineries and farm inputs from DA to help boost their production in line with the rice sufficiency program of President Benigno Aquino III.

Report shows that DA and OPA programs range from rice production, high value crops development, fisheries, agribusiness, livelihood training, farm mechanization and post harvest facilities, irrigation facilities, indigenous people agro forestry, sampaguita production and bamboo development.

The Provincial Government, meanwhile, provided equipment and tools like grinder pulverizers, units of STWs, power sprayers, irrigation facilities and other planting materials.

The Capitol likewise supported the fishery sector of the province through the provision of fishing bottom gillnets, fingerling dispersals, seminars and trainings.

The high value crops development program of the administration was able to help 1,932 vegetable growers and 100 schools under the program Gulayan sa Paaralan.

The OPA has also provided the farmers with seedlings, organic and foliar fertilizers, insecticides, among others. (Herbert P. Mapiles/Sun.Star Pampanga)
